THE ONLINE ARTIST HANDBOOK

thisisradinsky

So I think a lot of us are struggling with being an online artist these days, with the navigation of various socials being increasingly obscure and even perilous at times

It’s why I had an idea: The Online Artist Handbook

What is the Online Artist Handbook ?

It’s a collaborative google doc where all artists all over various social media websites can contribute their knowledge of said socials to help everyone thrive ! This includes becoming more familiar with various customs and ways to post as a part of building your online presence, and things to watch out for.

The document is completely free and open-source: everyone can use it, edit it, cite it, download it, whatever !

How does it work ?

There are two documents: one document is used for submitting notes about various social media platforms, and a second one is a read-only document where all the information is properly written out to ensure clarity and ease of reading.

I’d like to contribute !

That’s so awesome ! Thank you so much ! You can contribute to the document yourself here: [Google doc link]. The clean version of the document can be found here: [Google doc second link]

Remember to add yourself to the contributors section to be credited for your help !

Let’s go Tumblr ! Let’s create a community artist resource !

This is a treasure trove of information for fellow artists online! Thank you so much for organising it, this is an invaluable resource.

listening to Gravity Falls episode commentaries is great. Alex Hirsch nearly worked himself to death constantly. Grunkle Stan was nearly voiced by Matt Chapman of Homestar Runner. Literally nothing aside from the twist about Stan having a twin was planned more than a few episodes in advance. The zodiac wheel meant nothing and consisted of random symbols from the first 7 episodes because the intro was animated after those were done. Alex came up with the term “search for the blind eye” to be an extra bit for the between-season shorts before deciding to actually have a payoff for that setup and writing Society of the Blind Eye. Bill was meant to be a joke character and when Alex suggested that he be a real villain Michael Rianda responded “You, my friend, have lost the plot.” Bill getting one episode in the spotlight was basically chance and he only became the main villain of season 2 because he was so popular with the fans. The reveal of the portal at the end of season 1 was suggested by Mike without thinking it through and he left before the next season and the other writers were SO ANNOYED after that went through because they somehow had to keep that plot going for the 10 episodes it’d take to actually pay off. I am genuinely astonished that this show came together as well as it did at all.

By the way – this is a good time to let folks know that all of the DVD commentaries (including the “hidden” ones) are currently available in this YouTube playlist.

(They have been up on YT before, and removed. Highly recommend that folks download them off YT and save them, now that the DVD sets are out of print.)

Honestly, I think it's cool to see cis people adopt and use "nonconforming" pronouns. I saw a cis man state their pronouns were they/them, and I think that's awesome that they're forthcoming with that! I think a lot of cis people think pronoun nonconformity excludes them, but they're completely wrong! Pronoun nonconformity is literally for anybody. If you are a they/them cis man, that's fucking awesome! There will be people who will respect you, and it isn't a world-ending request to be addressed correctly

queer existence i love seeing it more and more :)

Heating pad/ Chronic pain PSA

Heating pads can burn you.

They can burn you quite badly.

I saw a post the here other day that asked how to “get rid of heating pad marks.”

Folks. If you have “heating pad marks” those are burns. And they can become much, much worse if you continue to use a heating pad on the same area of your body.

I know most folks with chronic pain scoff when we read the warnings on a heating pad. “Don’t lie on this pad.” Yeah. Sure. Lying on it is exactly the main thing you’ll be doing.

But please. Please always have a layer of protective fabric between the pad and your skin. Never, ever use a pad directly on your bare skin.

Never fall asleep on a heating pad. I know it’s easy to do, but you’re much more at risk for getting a bad burn when you’re asleep.

And never combine use of a heating pad with a topical analgesic (like Icy Hot, A535, Tiger Balm, Voltaren, Lakota creams or roll ons, essential oils or any other topical pain reliever) the oils and plant compounds in these products will accelerate burns. Do not apply anything to your skin and then use a heating pad.

And if you burn your skin, take a break from using the heating pad. I know that’s hard because many of us rely so heavily on them for pain management.

But you can permanently damage your skin by repeatedly burning it and dramatically increase your risk of cancer by doing so.

Be careful.

Please reblog this for the chronically ill folks in your life/ who follow you who use a heating pad

chronic pain + heating pad user here. hi i did not know this. thank you for the advice /gen important

need a bi4bi t4t m/f pairing where the girl is a giant freak and not in the "cute manic pixie" way but in the "unethical experiments in my fucked up laboratory" way and the guy is a golden retriever who thinks he can fix her. and he brings her cute bento lunches and she's like "bradley shut up put on your fucking gloves and hold this possum down so i can graft these giant grasshopper legs to it"
